Yessica’s Journey is an animation project about an artist’s perspective and expression of personal lived mental health experience. The film will be visualised within the context of an imaginative, creative and artistic story focusing on stimulating moving imagery, words and symbolism. Yessica’s Journey will be created using stop motion and 2D animation style methods.
‘There is something very special and magical about stop motion animation. To breath life into a character and inanimate objects through the simple and gentle touch of your hand is an incredibly rewarding experience.’
The film is funded by Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind, The Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and The Wellcome Trust. It is anticipated that the film will be used in mental health organisations as part of educational training and workshops as well as being used on websites and at film festivals.
‘I hope the animation will encourage mental health awareness, understanding and the importance of improving wellbeing through creativity. Animation can offer a unique way to visually tell a story based on a real experience and has the potential gift to leave a message of hope in people’s minds.’
